Once blood pressure is adequately controlled, measuring it once a week is more than sufficient.

Various medications are available to effectively manage blood pressure, with common options including ACE inhibitors or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers, Calcium Channel Blockers, Beta Blockers, and Diuretics. If you’re taking more than three medications for blood pressure management, consider consulting a cardiologist.

A healthy lifestyle is essential for lowering blood pressure. This includes limiting salt intake to less than 5 grams per day (try avoiding extra table salt if salt is already added during cooking), exercising at least 45 minutes a day, five days a week, maintaining an ideal BMI through weight control, and taking medications consistently without skipping doses.

Depending on the type of congenital heart defect, minimally invasive procedures such as device implantation can be effective. For severe cases, open-heart surgery may be necessary.

Some congenital heart defects can be diagnosed in childhood and managed conservatively. However, if a defect affects the heart’s pumping ability, an interventional procedure may be needed.

Certain cardiac defects in a baby can be detected while still in the womb through a fetal echocardiogram
